Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers are products that are injected into the skin to ‘plump up’ or ‘accentuate’ part of the face.

Why are they used?

Dermal Fillers are excellent in the treatment of static lines such as the naso-labial lines (lines from the nose to the mouth), oral commissures (lines from the corners of the mouth) and smokers or fines lines around the mouth.  Dermal Fillers are also used to augment the lip and enhance its appearance.

How do Dermal Fillers work?

A wide variety of products are available on the market now, and depending on the specific problem and area, a product can be matched to your requirement and expectations.

Are Dermal Filling treatments safe?

Yes.  Each year tens of thousands of patients receive Dermal Filling treatments, with very few side effects.

What is the treatment like?

Dermal Fillers give a dramatic and exciting result! Most of the time the result is instantaneous.  You may need a local anaesthetic if treated in the lips, but most of the time ice or numbing gel is all that is needed.

Are there any side effects or complications?

Bruising can sometimes occur in the treated area. Some patients may also experience some unevenness in the result.  This is usually very subtle and can be corrected once the swelling has gone down.

What results can I expect?

Dermal fillers can ‘fill’ and ‘plump’ areas of the face that have become saggy and wrinkled due to sun damage and general ageing.  They can give a ‘fresher’ look, and result in a more youthful appearance.

What are the limitations of Dermal Filling treatments?

Dermal Filling injections are only a temporary solution for the treatment of lines and wrinkles.  Depending on the product used, the results can last from 3 months to 2 years.
