Teeth grinding or 'bruxism' is a common problem affecting many people, and usually occurs when you are asleep. You may not even realize that you suffer from it! It can lead to excessive wear on the teeth and may cause permanent damage to the teeth and the joints of the jaw.
You may be affected if:
Often teeth grinding is caused by an overactive muscle in the jaw called the ‘masseter’ muscle. By treating this muscle with the same injections we use to relax wrinkles we can alleviate the symptoms of teeth grinding for up to 8 months.
Four or five small injections are usually required on each side. These injections work rapidly to break the muscle spasm and weaken its clenching effect.
Over time, with repeated treatments, the overactive muscle will become less active and the effect of the treatment lasts longer.
If you think you may suffer from teeth grinding contact us for a consultation to determine whether this treatment will work for you.
